In a style derived from cubism that is uniquely his, Bosshard composes swirls of colors that intertwine with transparencies and in this decor shrouded in clouds, a few rare features for a subject that navigates between fantasy and dream.
I warmly thank Philippe Clerc, art historian and expert for Rodolphe-Théophile Bosshard for having authenticated the painting: "The painting corresponds to the works produced by Bosshard at the end of the 20s or very beginning of the 30s, just after his long stay in Paris ". It is part of the online catalog. : https://www.rthbosshard.ch/autre-fr3557.html#tableau_D0214

Here are some excerpts:
"Rodolphe-Théophile Bosshard was born on June 7, 1889 in Morges, Switzerland.
Gifted in music, he dreamed of painting.
Fascinated by Ferdinand Hodler and Eugène Carrière, he entered the Geneva School of Fine Arts at the age of 18.
While passing through Lierre, the family home, he met a young German woman, Ingeborg Kammer, whom he married in 1914.
In the meantime, Bosshard discovered Paris and the Louvre, Leipzig, Munich, and London, in the excitement of encountering European painting.
1920 marked a period of serious crisis in his relationship, and Bosshard moved to Paris.
This Parisian period, which lasted until 1924, was decisive.
A fertile period, sometimes on the edge of poverty, in which striking works were born, initially dark and gradually brighter: Nude with a Basket (1920), The Three Graces (1921) or Leda (1923), landscapes, then large nudes in mountain landscapes, masterpieces of this period.
A work acclaimed by critics…» He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne from 1921 to 1923, at the Salon des Tuileries from 1923 to 1931 and at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants in 1926.
In 1925, he exhibited with Picasso and Chagall at the Charreau-Bucher gallery.
He participated in the Exhibition of Contemporary Swiss Art at the Musée du Jeu de Paume in 1934.
Bosshard died in September 1960 in Chardonne (Switzerland)."
