                    Charming 19th century painting depicting a winter scene with a rider riding through a snowy village...The work is by the painter Louis Émile Bénassit (1833-902), an artist to whom the Bénézit devotes a good chapter and whose interesting and comprehensive biography can be read on the Wikipedia website: he was the son of a couple of Bordeaux merchants who moved to London where he was born on December 20, 1833...A renowned painter, etcher, lithographer and illustrator, he first trained in the studio of John-Lewis Brown before joining the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he studied under François-Edouard Picot...he began at the Salon in 1859 and exhibited there regularly from 1863 to 1888, becoming a member of the Salon des artistes français society... Values & Auctions: depending on the theme and the quality of his paintings, its value varies from a few hundred to several thousand euros: his record auctions of 4000 & 5500 euros were respectively obtained in 2002 & 1989...apart from the records, we note among the results of these last years about twenty of his paintings which were sold between 500 & 1900 euros / Source Art-Price.
