"Expressionist Gouache 1950 - Characters - From "james Ensor" To The "cobra" Movement - Signed?"
Large & powerful expressionist gouache from the 1950s-1960s, which represents a scene as picturesque as it is uncertain with several characters... The work is signed lower right but the signature is difficult to understand / detail shot 9: on the technical level we observe a fairly robust construction, which gives a lot of strength to the general composition.. We have the impression that it is a painter who was influenced by James Ensor, as were most of the artists of the "COBRA" movement: this mainly brought together painters from Copenhagen Brussels Amsterdam ... although this artistic movement dissolved in 1951, most of its artists experienced intense activity in the 1950s-1960s ... see for example the violence of the chromaticism of a painter like Asger Jornou or the graphics of the Belgian artist Pierre Alechinsky, to suggest that the author of this gouache is part of this movement, or at least that he has is influenced / notice to research enthusiasts. - note that this work was produced on strong gouache paper, then mounted on rigid cardboard to stop fine tears here and there, without any real consequences on its quality - Gouache size (at sight): 50 cm x 33 cm Frame: 63 cm x 46 cm - ask me for other photos if necessary -
