Lars Bo (1924–1999)
Danish painter, engraver and writer, Lars Bo was born in Kolding, Denmark, into a family of artists.
After studying at the Academy of Applied Arts in Copenhagen, he published his first drawings in the Danish press before moving to Paris in 1947.
Trained in engraving with Johnny Friedlaender and Albert Flocon, he developed a unique universe, both fantastic and poetic, where the imagination dominates.
His talent as an illustrator led him to collaborate with great authors — Voltaire, Kafka, Gogol and Andersen, whose works he notably illustrated The Snow Queen.
A member of several artists' societies and exhibited worldwide, Lars Bo left behind a body of engraved work of rare originality, marked by surrealism and fine lines.
He died in 1999, recognized as one of the masters of contemporary engraving.
