Beautiful View Of Metz, Circa 1593, Braun And Hogenberg, Period Colors
Artist: Gearges Braun
Copper engraving, watercolored by the publisher. This plan appeared in a Latin book published in Cologne in 1572 entitled Civitates orbis terrarum liber primus and subsequently reprinted several times.
This book is the work of Georges Braun (1541-1622), canon of Cologne Cathedral, and Frans Hogenberg (circa 1535-1590), an engraver born in Mechelen.
We can see that during the Renaissance, Europe was already functioning...
This engraving is doubled on back, it has foxing spots and slight loss of color in places. Good condition, beautiful colors, despite signs of aging.
Dimensions are 61 x 48.5 cm with old mat, and sheet 51 x 37.5 cm.
