German Blanc-de-chine Pair “grape Harvesters”, Kpm-school, C.1880
Well-matched German pair of blanc-de-chine figures in
the KPM-school tradition, circa 1880: a youth with pole and baskets and a young
woman with grapes, each on a rocaille base. Hard-paste porcelain; heavy
castings; applied vine leaves and bead-grapes; tree-trunk prop to the boy. The
modelling reflects courtly Rococo types interpreted by late-19th-century
workshops, with characteristic softened leaf cuts and rounded grape clusters.
Underside glazed with central vents; a sketchy underglaze cobalt stroke appears
on the boy’s base.
Collectibility: matched blanc-de-chine harvesters are a sought-after category
among German Rococo revival collectors, prized for their quiet elegance and
strong cabinet appeal.
Dimensions:
Boy 25 cm, base 10.5 × 10.5 cm, 738 g; Girl 24 cm, base 10 × 10 cm, 931 g.
Condition:
Both basket handles lacking; tiny chips to foliage on the girl; shortened tip
to the boy’s pole; kiln hairline issuing from the vent inside the boy’s base;
otherwise no visible restoration.
