"Large French Biscuit Porcelain Figures, Marked Chantilly, Late 19th Century"
A rare and decorative pair of large French biscuit porcelain figures, each inscribed CHANTILLY in gilt relief to the base, probably produced by the firm of Vion & Baury in Paris towards the end of the 19th century. Both subjects depict a gallant couple in rocaille costume, with particularly fine facial work and hand-painted pastel garments. The imposing bases with gilt CHANTILLY inscription are typical of the revivalist designs of the Parisian Belle Époque. These works do not come from the historic Chantilly manufactory (which closed around 1800), but are high-quality decorative pieces, inspired by the French taste for 18th- to 19th-century styles. Their imposing size and fine workmanship make them highly sought-after objects among collectors and lovers of historical decoration. Condition: The woman has missing fingers on her left hand. The man has the missing little finger on his right hand. Otherwise, both pieces are in excellent antique condition, without restoration, with their original polychromy and gilding well preserved.
