Small Glass Painting Of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga – Venetian School, Early 19th Century

Refined devotional glass painting depicting Saint Aloysius (Luigi) Gonzaga (1568–1591), the young Jesuit saint venerated as patron of Christian youth. The work shows the saint with a delicate, contemplative face, golden halo, lily – symbol of purity – and a small Marian effigy beside him.
The painting, of extremely fine quality, is executed with an exceptionally delicate brush tip in a technique close to miniature painting: the features of the face, hands and lily reveal outstanding mastery, rendered through subtle hatching and minute highlights.
The support consists of an original blown glass panel, slightly irregular, dating from the first decades of the 19th century, which lends a special luminous vibration to the surface.The original wooden frame, decorated with stylised foliage, is typical of Venetian-Austrian production of the early 19th century.
