Malayer Carpet, Herati, 127 X 200 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool, Iran, Late 19th Century, Used Condition
Malayer rug, hand-knotted wool in Iran, Persia, circa 1880, with a respective size of 127 cm wide x 200 cm long.
Old piece in used condition, velvet, selvedges and fringes, rug of great solidity.
Our model has a herati pattern placed on the entire field and having many variations of shades.
The colors, silky red, pale blue, midnight blue, pink, brick red, lichen green, chamois and ivory are of the most beautiful effect. The beautifully drawn border is made up of stylized leaves, followed by a maze of lines.
These rugs are knotted in strong, thick, shiny thread, at the time, always dyed with natural dyes and of course hand-spun.
This thread gives a resistant surface and a beautiful palette of colors.
They have in common (Hamadan rugs) to be woven with cotton warp threads and a weft thread between each row of knots.
The patterns are often geometric, but we also find very elaborate floral patterns.
## More recent rugs, after 1980, are often made of synthetic colors and lower quality wool than older rugs.
Generally speaking, we can say that Malayer rugs are very good runner rugs.
The Hamadan rug family includes the following types: Bortchalou, Enjilas, Hosseinabad, Lilihan, Khamse, Zanjan and the Malayer, models that we present on our Proantic gallery.
These rugs are therefore also sometimes sold under the general name of hamadan.
A production of rugs that includes these many villages mentioned above.
This quality piece has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
