This miniature is after the painting by Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) entitled portrait of a child in different views, "Angel Heads", painted in 1786-1787. It is several views of the head of Lady Frances Isabella Keir Gordon (1782-1831), aged 5, who posed for Reynolds in July and August 1786, and again in March 1787, the year of his exhibition. She was the only daughter of Lord William Gordon and his wife Frances Ingram (1761-1841), whose painting was bequeathed to the National Gallery upon the latter's death in 1841. It is now on display at Tate Britain.
