19th-century Surgeon's Kit By Mathieu Fils

This beautiful grained leather case, enhanced with gold trim, is lined with purple velvet.

Marked inside the flap:

It is quite complete, containing:
5 hallmarked curved silver probes,
4 steel forceps, one marked Galante,
1 grooved steel probe,
1 universal trocar with an ebonite handle marked Mathieu,
5 curved folding scalpels and needles with locking mechanisms in tortoiseshell handles,
2 steel scissors, an ebonite silver nitrate holder,
and 2 long, thin silver-plated instruments.

Inside the pockets:
2 tortoiseshell and steel bloodletting lancets,
2 sets of burnished steel curved needles,
1 skein of cord, and a roll of fine silver-plated wire.

The white metal clasp is perfectly functional.
Wear and oxidation are consistent with its age and use.
A beautiful pencil case that was of prestigious quality in its time!
