The work is entirely composed of horizontal lines, just broken by clumps of trees. The river and its sandbanks occupy the foreground. In the center of the painting, trees, meadows, and yellowed fields convey a beautiful summer atmosphere. In the distance, a gray-blue forest marks the horizon.
The artist's name is inscribed on the back of the painting.
The work is in excellent condition. It is offered in a modern frame with a golden patina, also in very good condition.
The artist
Georges Dominique Zezzos, born in Venice in 1883 and died in 1959, is an artist with Italian roots but whose career was divided between France and Italy.
A versatile artist, he tackled various genres: genre scenes, still lifes, landscapes, portraits, nudes.
Zezzos has exhibited in prestigious salons such as the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the Salon des Indépendants or the Salon des Tuileries, but also in several major Italian cities such as Florence, Milan or Turin.
Some of his paintings are featured in renowned institutional collections, notably at the Petit Palais in Paris or in a museum in Montevideo.
Zezzos favors modest formats, often on panel or paper, which gives his works a particular intimacy. His treatment of urban subjects and landscapes reveals a look that is both realistic and noticeably modernist, typical of the French school of the 20th century.
