Charles Jean Agard – Two Academies Of Men From The Back – Signed And Dated
Artist: Agard Charles Jean (1866 – 1950, France)
Two academies of nude men from behind, created by Charles Jean Agard. We admire the balanced proportions and the sureness of the line. One of the two is done on blue paper and enhanced with white chalk.
The works are signed and dated at the bottom, one on the left and the other on the right. One dates from 1925, the other from 1926.
They are in very good condition, without foxing, stains, or creases.
Both are offered in modern frames, under glass and passepartout.
The artist
Charles Jean Agard was born in 1866 in Dordogne. He received a scholarship to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In the capital, he frequented Pissarro, Sisley, and especially Puvis de Chavannes, who encouraged him to exhibit his works. From 1893, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, then at the Salon d'Automne and at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He died in the Paris region in 1950.
He painted numerous landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. His works (and in particular his academies) were the subject of numerous public auctions. Some of them are exhibited at the Louis-Senlecq Museum of Art and History in L'Isle Adam.
Object visible at the gallery (07240).
