2 Hanging Canvases: Renaissance Princesses – 19th Century – Signed
Artist: Boutillier-dufourmantelle
These two canvases forming a pendant represent ladies of high lineage dressed as in the Renaissance. They wear rich finery and are placed in settings with elements characteristic of the period. The canvases are remarkable for the attention to detail that clearly occupied the artist.
These two canvases are surrounded by a black border, possibly added, probably made of paper.
One of them is in excellent condition, without repair. On the second we see an old repair on the back, invisible on the front. Both canvases are signed lower right.
The works of Boutillier Dufourmantelle are rare, and practically nothing is known about this artist, who was active in the second half of the 19th century.
Object visible at the gallery (07240).
