Object description :

"Pair Of Fruit Still Lifes In Silvered Frames, Late 18th – Early 19th Century"
Charming pair of fruit-themed still lifes, oil on canvas, dating from the late 18th to the early 19th century. These two well-balanced and decorative compositions depict pears, plums, peaches, and apples laid out on a neutral surface and bathed in warm light, enhancing their volume and texture.
The sober yet refined style, the delicate use of shadows, and the soft brushwork reflect the pictorial tradition of Northern Italy, particularly from the Lombard and Piedmontese schools, where still life painting was treated with elegance and restraint, often intended for bourgeois or aristocratic interiors.
Both paintings are housed in their original silvered wooden frames, finely carved and still in excellent condition. The original silver finish, now softly patinated with age, lends a discreet yet precious touch that complements the works beautifully.
The general condition is good: there are minor paint losses along the margins and a slight slackening of the canvases, due to the presence of fixed (non-adjustable) original stretchers. No overpainting or invasive restorations are present. A light and respectful conservation intervention — such as gentle re-tensioning and stabilization of fragile areas — may be advisable to improve visual clarity without compromising the authenticity of the works.
Canvas size: approx. 43.5 x 35 cm; framed size: approx. 49 x 40 cm.
