Tribal Persian Rug With Gul Motif – Hand-knotted Wool, Iran, Early 20th Century
Elegant tribal Persian rug, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton warp and weft, likely originating from western Iran. It can be attributed to Bakhtiari weaving traditions or related tribal groups such as the Luri or Qashqai.
The design features a dense and orderly repetition of octagonal medallions (known as guls) on a crimson red ground, with decorative elements in blue, ivory, and rust orange. The border is framed by three bands of stylized floral motifs, typical of traditional tribal ornamentation. The overall effect is both balanced and decorative.
The back reveals a symmetrical (ghiordes) knot, compact and skillfully executed.
