Object description :

"Large Louis XVI Polish Bed, Stamped P.-e. Langlois – Paris, Circa 1775."
This rare Louis XVI Polish bed, stamped P.-E. Langlois, is an exceptional piece. Although a few 18th-century Polish beds still exist, authentic large-sized models capable of sleeping two people are almost impossible to find, and even more so when they are stamped. Entirely in carved and molded lacquered beech, this bed is a high-quality Parisian work, made around 1775 by Pierre-Éloi Langlois (1738–1805), who became a master seat carpenter in 1774. It is probably one of the first stamped works from his workshop. A refined and elegant structure: - Fluted and rudenté uprights, extending into tapered fluted legs. - Symmetrical bedside tables, with a high crossbar cut into a basket handle. The whole is topped with curved bars in period wrought iron, supporting an elegant molded curved canopy, covered with an old crimson damask (to be preserved or adapted). This bed canopy, still influenced by the Louis XV style, is typical of the very first years of the reign of Louis XVI, confirming a manufacture around 1775. A remarkable state of conservation: This bed is in an exceptional structural state: healthy and solid wood, no modifications, complete structure, with: its period ironwork (rods, lag screws, bars), its original floor to accommodate a bed base, A castle bed, for two people: This bed was designed from the outset to sleep two, which makes it a real rarity in Louis XVI furniture. Most Polish beds of this period were of much more modest dimensions, often for one person. This model therefore combines: the elegance of the 18th century, the authenticity of a complete piece of furniture, the rare functionality of a real original double bed. Dimensions: Total height: 332 cm Height of bedside tables: 140 cm Total width: 153 cm Total length: 212 cm Intended sleeping: width from 140 to 150 cm (depending on the mattress) x 200 cm long
