2nd half of the 16th century
Collection offering dish depicting the Elevation of the Virgin Mary
The Madonna is represented here alone, without the child Jesus in her arms, on a thin crescent moon, surrounded by a dense halo. The Virgin is about to be crowned by two angels on either side of her head.
The frame of the main scene is here devoid of any circular decorative band or Gothic inscriptions. A simple circle in relief and a concentric register of gadroons just separate the center of the dish from its wing, decorated with stylized interlacing flowers.
Very thick and very heavy, like all offering dishes of this period
Nice overall patina
33 cm diameter
Very good original condition, without hanging hole, cut or other defect or restoration
