"Satsuma Vase “mt. Fuji And Cherry Blossoms”, Attributed To Hayakawa, Kyoto C. 1890"
A well-preserved and finely painted Satsuma vase from the Kyoto region, attributed to the workshop of Hayakawa, dating to the late Meiji period. The baluster-form body features a panoramic landscape with Mount Fuji, along with a genre scene of women and children beneath blooming cherry trees. The shoulder is bordered with textile-style brocade, and the foot with geometric patterns. Executed in polychrome enamels and gold, the decoration exemplifies Hayakawa’s refined Kyoto export style. The ivory crackle glaze is typical of high-end Satsuma. The base bears the Shimazu crest and a partially blackened cartouche — a known practice for obscuring signatures prior to export. Dimensions: Height 24.5 cm, diameter 13 cm, weight 977 g (stand excluded). Condition: Excellent. Minor gilt wear. No chips, cracks or repairs.Slight enamel loss on the rim of the neck.
