"Dehua Blanc De Chine Guanyin With Fish Basket, Early 20th Century"
Simple, well-cast Dehua blanc de Chine figure of
Guanyin, early 20th century. She stands on waves over a dragon head; bead
garlands on the robe; ruyi (lingzhi) in the right hand, the mushroom form
associated with immortality; open basket with a fish to the left. The
“Fish-basket Guanyin” subject is widely documented in museums and at major
auctions. Guanyin, known as Quan Yin/Kannon, is the Bodhisattva of Compassion in
East Asian Buddhism. Documented in museum collections (e.g., British Museum; Birmingham
Museum of Art) and at Bonhams/Christie’s; a solid, display-ready Dehua workshop
piece for a focused blanc-de-Chine collection.
Condition: tiny chip to a leaf on the basket; faint factory neck seam from
moulding (not damage). Otherwise excellent.
