"By A. Maigret, Supplier To The Imperial Furniture Repository, Mahogany Display Cabinet, Circa 1800"
Small bookcase forming a display case in mahogany and mahogany veneer on an oak frame, Directoire style. Opening with two glass doors, our piece of furniture reveals an interior with three shelves mounted on racks. The windows have panes of beautiful old glass. The interior of the doors is fitted with fine gilded brass rods allowing the possible installation of curtains. A fine work of marquetry net present on the covering rod of the right door gives an additional elegance to this piece of furniture both sober and refined. Our display case is topped with white marble. It has two stamps of Alexandre Maigret. Initially an upholsterer and cabinetmaker established on rue de Vivienne in Paris in the 1770s, Alexandre Maigret was appointed supplier to the Garde Meuble de la Couronne in 1805 and remained so until his retirement in 1826. He supplied furniture for the châteaux of Versailles, Saint Cloud, Fontainebleau, as well as for the Tuileries. All in very good condition, the lock of the piece of furniture works and has its key.
