"Cloisonné Bronze Basin. Chinese Work. Ming Period, 16th Century."
Hollow dish, probably a basin for ritual use in hammered bronze, the wires are welded and are also in bronze. Decorated with lotus flowers and clouds. The enamels are in simple colors typical of this period. There remain traces of mercury gilding. The central part has lost practically all of these enamels. This dish, although very damaged, is very interesting because its poor condition allows us a very serious study of the technical construction of Chinese cloisonné enamels from the middle of the 16th century. Observing this simple dish is more educational than consulting dozens of specialized books. Note that no wires are missing. We are selling it as a study object. China, mid-16th century, circa 1550.
