"Boddhisatva Monju In Kyushu Porcelain. Japan End Of The 19th Century."
The deity is represented riding a Buddhist lion. This is the Boddhisatva Monju who holds in one hand the sword to cut ignorance and in the other a scroll of writing to bring knowledge. The representation of the Boddisatva is feminine here. The lion is the guardian of Buddhism. The sculpture was probably created by assembling several molded parts. It could be a creation of the kilns of Kutani, however the enamels are brighter, the finishes more careful, there are under the glaze incisions representing the coat of the lion. Japanese work from the end of the 19th century. Good general condition. Several small accidents that we have annotated on the photos. 3 teeth of the Lion truncated, 2 phalanges of Monju broken, tip of the foot glued back, a chip at the tip of the sword. It is a statue of rare elegance and a very pleasant subject. Height: 47cm
