Pair Of Antique Vases, Patinated Bronze, 19th Century
Pair of patinated bronze vases based on the model of the ancient vase known as the "Townley Vase", a famous Roman vase discovered at the end of the 18th century and purchased in 1805 by the British Museum. This one is decorated on the belly with a frieze depicting a procession dedicated to the Dionysian cult. Presented on square-section bases in gray marble. The whole is in excellent condition and has a beautiful original medal patina. On the back of the vases is the stamp indicating 'Mechanical reduction, patented Collas' named after Achille Collas (1795/1859) inventor of a process for reproducing ancient sculptures in reduction and in a very reliable way ...
