Borghese Gladiator - After Agasias Of Ephesus - Large Bronze
Artist: D'après Agasias D'éphèse
The Borghese Gladiator is a famous ancient sculpture, dating from the 1st century BC, attributed to the Greek sculptor Agasias, active between 125 and 75 BC, belonging to the Hellenistic school of Ephesus. Despite its name, it does not depict a gladiator, but rather a naked Greek warrior in full combat. The statue stands out for its dynamism and the anatomical precision of the body in motion. Discovered in 17th-century Italy, it belonged to the Borghese family before being acquired by the Musée du Louvre. Today, it is considered a masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture.
