Artist: Henri Dubois (1859-1945)
Bronze plaque by the French medallist and sculptor Henri Dubois (1859-1945) after "The Departure of the Volunteers of 1792" also entitled "La Marseillaise" or "the Song of Departure", high relief by François Rude sculpted between 1833 and 1836 on the East facade of the Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile.
Student of Henri Chapu and Alexandre Falguière at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Henri Alfred Auguste Dubois won the second grand prix de Rome in medal engraving in 18782. A member of the Société des artistes français in 1883, he won a 3rd class medal there in 1888 as well as a travel grant, a 2nd class medal in 1893 and a 1st class medal in 1898. Honorable mention at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889, he received a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1900 and was placed in the Salon as an hors-competition.
