Artist: Georges Bareau (1866-1931)
Bronze with black patina by Georges Bareau representing an allegory of History. This sculpture, also known under the titles "Poetry" "History" or "The Call to Arms", was published by Ferdinand Barbedienne in the 1900s. It is present in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts of Besançon.
Georges Bareau entered the Paris School of Fine Arts where he was a student of Gabriel-Jules Thomas. He exhibited at the Salon from 1889. In 1893, he obtained a third medal at the Salon of the Society of French Artists then, the following year, a vermeil medal at the Universal Exhibition in Lyon. A gold medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris crowned his career. In 1920, he proposed to the mayor of Bordeaux to create the monument to the dead of the Great War in Bordeaux but he did not obtain the project.
