Pierre-yves Trémois - "the Birth Of The Superman" - Lithograph

Pierre-Yves Trémois is a French painter, draftsman, and engraver with an instantly recognizable style.
Trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he established himself in the 1940s as a master of line and composition. His work, at the crossroads of science and poetry, explores biology, anatomy, eroticism, and mythology.
Trémois saw in the human body a universal canvas for expression, blending scientific rigor with symbolic imagination. His engravings are distinguished by their almost surgical precision and rare graphic elegance. He illustrated numerous literary works, notably those of Gide, Claudel, and Baudelaire. In 1978, he was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, where he occupied the seat formerly held by Georges Braque. His style combines the exactness of the scientist with the freedom of the poet, in a world often tinged with sacred eroticism. He also worked in sculpture and stained glass, always with the same formal rigor.
Until his death in 2020, Trémois remained an unclassifiable artist, celebrated for the intellectual power and sensuality of his work.
An exhibition entitled "Trémois – The Anatomy of the Line" was held from June 18 to September 28, 2025, at the Pavillon Comtesse de Caen of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, 27 quai de Conti in Paris.
