"borghese Dancers" Plaster Relief - After Antiquity

Representing five Graces in the guise of antique-draped dancers, this plaster cast is a replica of the famous antique bas-relief known as the Borghese Dancers, now preserved at the Musée du Louvre.

The young women, dressed in finely sculpted antique drapery, are captured in a continuous choreographic movement, suggesting a ritual or festive dance linked to religious or civic celebrations.

The original relief comes from the prestigious collection of the Borghese family, famous for having gathered important antique works in Rome before their dispersal to major European collections.

The composition is distinguished by the fluidity of the lines, the subtle play of the folds of clothing that hug the bodies, and the delicacy of the attitudes, creating a musical visual rhythm.

Through this balance between movement and serenity, the work fully embodies the classical ideal of beauty, harmony and grace, which profoundly influenced Western art right up to the modern era.
