In Greek mythology , Hermes was the messenger of the gods ; the potector of travelers , merchants and flocks.
He wears the petase ; ( small round flat winged hat ) and the caduceus around which two snakes are coiled.
The wings on his feet enable him to move swiftly and are one of his distictive signs.
Mercury; represented in the guise of an athletic young man, is propelled into the air by a baby blower.
In his momentum, he raises his arm indicating the sky , source of divine knowledge.
The whole rests on an onyx base.
Very fine execution and in good condition.
