Important fragment of sculpted white marble depicting "The Sacrifice of Abraham", a famous biblical episode taken from Genesis. To test Abraham's faith and trust, God asks him to sacrifice what is most precious to him, his son Isaac. Seeing Abraham ready to do so, God then provides him with a ram to sacrifice him in place of his son....This large fragment depicts Abraham in a classical representation, carrying the ram across his shoulders, his head turned to the side, his face is handsome and has a thick beard, his gaze is concentrated; Abraham is dressed in a heavy coat with wide folds. Beautiful sculpture presented in its old patina on a contemporary base of quality patinated metal. Missing parts and wear. Italian work dating from the Romanesque period, circa 12th century.
