"Pair Of Antique Vases In Carved Alabaster, Grand Tour, First Half Of The 19th Century."
Pair of beautiful covered vases in very finely carved alabaster. "Grand Tour" model treated in the spirit of the return to Antiquity; the body in the shape of an amphora on a circular foot decorated with a frieze of laurel leaves, openwork neck with a gaudroned edge and high "Greek-style" side handles engraved with a geometric reserve decoration. One of the two faces is decorated with a floral composition in a central cartouche. These beautiful vases have retained their original lids and the neck is decorated with an openwork "Greek-style" frieze, which could suggest that they could possibly be used to contain and diffuse scented foliage or petals, a "potpourri" process still very fashionable at that time. Superb quality of execution and good general condition, note a small alabaster renovation very well carried out on the edge of one of the lids. Beautiful old patina. French work from the Restoration period, first third of the 19th century. NB / Shipping possible to France via tracked Colissimo: 50 euros.
