Biography:
Cristobal Piza Ensenyat (1850-1936) was a Spanish painter from Majorca, born in Soller. Known for his landscapes and typical scenes, he studied drawing and painting at the School of Fine Arts in Palma. He received two grants from the province of Palma de Majorca to study at the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
Throughout his career, Piza Ensenyat stayed in Paris and Nîmes before settling permanently in Majorca. He actively participated in the organization of the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition and regularly exhibited at the Palma de Majorca Salon. In 1887 and 1890, he also participated in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts in Madrid.
In 1929, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held in Palma de Majorca at the Malorquinas galleries, highlighting his style characterized by a luminous palette and a keen sense of drawing and composition (cf. Benezit).
