French Regence Period Giltwood Mirror, C. 1715-1723
French Regence Period Giltwood Mirror, C. 1715-1723
Private MLD Antiquités collection - No exhibited in the Gallery.
This 18th-century mirror in the French Regence style features a finely carved and giltwood frame. The Rocaille motifs, with asymmetrical scrolls, shells, and acanthus leaves, are typical of this period. The glass is original, and the frame retains its period gilding, with minor touch-ups.
This type of mirror was commonly used in aristocratic interiors, often placed in salons or boudoirs. Its size and decoration make it a representative piece of 18th-century French decorative art.
