Serge Belloni (1925–2005) View of the Grand Canal and the Ca’ d’Oro Palace, oil on canvas, circa 1970
Description:
Serge Belloni, known as "The Painter of Paris," devoted his artistic life to capturing the timeless essence of Paris and Venice. Day after day, in all weathers, he immortalized the ever-changing faces of the City of Light and the City of the Doges.
This beautiful painting transports us to Venice. In this large-scale work, which offers a magnificent view of the Grand Canal and the Ca’ d’Oro Palace, Serge Belloni—in a rare touch—adorns a small section of the palace’s façade with gold leaf. Belloni enjoyed spending the fall and early winter in Paris, where the bare trees revealed the city’s architecture and authentic spirit. He spent the rest of the year in Venice to capture that unique light.
