Serge Belloni (1925–2005) View of the Grand Canal and the Ca’ d’Oro Palace, oil on canvas, circa 1970

Description:
Serge Belloni, known as "The Painter of Paris," devoted his artistic life to capturing the timeless essence of Paris and Venice. Day after day, in all weathers, he immortalized the ever-changing faces of the City of Light and the City of the Doges.

This beautiful painting transports us to Giverny, as if paying homage to Claude Monet. Serge Belloni offers us a view of the gardens of Giverny, with its Japanese bridge, its water lily pond, its weeping willow, and its countless summer flowers.

Belloni enjoyed spending the fall and early winter in Paris, where the bare trees revealed the city’s architecture and authentic spirit. And the rest of the year in Venice to capture that very special light. It seems that for this very special exhibition, he had broken with his usual routine.

Oil on wood, signed lower left. This painting was most likely created for the exhibition titled “Giverny” at the Galerie Bernheim Jeune on the Faubourg Saint-Honoré, which took place from June 1 to July 30, 1989.
