Late 18th Century French Mahogany And Marquetry Games Table Converting To A Desk
Late 18th Century French Mahogany and Marquetry Games Table Converting to a Desk
This elegant Backgammon games table, also designed for card games, Checkers, and Chess, converts into a flat writing desk. It exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of the Louis XVI period. Crafted from solid mahogany, figured mahogany veneer, stained sycamore, ebony, and boxwood, it combines functionality with aesthetic appeal.
The removable top features two sides: one adorned with two marquetry game boards—one for Checkers and one for Chess—while the other, serving as a desk, is covered in lime-green leather embellished with gilded Louis XVI tooling. When the top is removed, a Backgammon board is revealed, inlaid with bone and green-stained sycamore against an ebony background. The table includes two lateral drawers and stands on four tapered legs, each ending in gilded bronze casters for both stability and elegance.
The table comes complete with a full set of gaming pieces, two leather cups, four dice, and a set of Chess pieces.
