NATIONAL CITY GUARD SAPPER SABER, First Empire, Restoration modified. 27990 Entirely gilt brass mount. Straight guard with double straight quillons decorated with oak branches ending with grenades; crossguard representing a crown composed of three towers on the front, and laurel leaves on the other side. One-piece hilt in the shape of a rooster's head. Straight blade with hollow sides, signed on the heel: "... N° 574 A PARIS " (Coullier erased). Black patent leather scabbard with two large brass fittings stamped with palmettes, laurel branches and foliage, chape with button for wearing on the belt. France. First Empire, Restoration modified. Good condition, scabbard mount and fittings retaining their gilding, blade with oxidation from use, varnished leather of the scabbard slightly chipped. The crossguard was changed during the Restoration for reassignment to a national city guard.
