Khond War Axe, Central India 19th Century

This war axe is typical of the Khond ethnic group of central India. It dates from the 19th century.
The Khonds are an infamous ethnic group, renowned for their savagery, who still practiced cannibalism in the 19th century according to some authors, and who documentedly practiced human sacrifices to fertilize the Earth until the beginning of the 20th century. The axe is the favorite weapon of the Khonds, it can be of different shapes.
The iron of this one is organized around a central edge not very marked, and the shoulder which surrounds the eye of the axe continues at the level of the two backs of the edge The eye itself is circular, with a strong collar on each side. A thin iron sheet makes the junction between the metal part and the stock of the axe.
Width of the edge = 15.7 cm, height eye-edge 16.5 cm
The stock is made of hard wood, with a nice patina. It protrudes from the metal part by 7 cm. This is the original handle.
This weapon is quite rare in Europe, it is absolutely authentic, at a particularly reasonable price.
