Artist: Femmes Berbères Aït Ouaouzguite
Berber Ouaouzguite rugs are distinguished by three types of weaving used:
Tazerbite which uses a weave with a symmetrical knot on two warps.
The Glaoua rug from the High Atlas which are worked by combining three techniques, knotting, flat weaving and cording.
The Zanifi more rustic and very solid, flat in tapestry, for the transport of grains.
Our model is made with a knotted wool of great density, the decorative elements are typical of the culture of the Atlas.
# The old and modern rugs of Morocco are always dyed naturally and this since the conservation obligations prescribed from the beginning of the 20th century by Marshal Liautey, craftsman of the French protectorate, to Prosper Ricard, responsible for the conservation of Moroccan traditions, the conservation and rehabilitation of heritage.
Colors: Mainly red (madder) yellow (saffron) blue (indigo) Traditionally, Moroccan rugs were knotted only by women to be used in their own homes. They were used to decorate floors and serve as seat covers, bedspreads or blankets during the colder months.
The rugs are full of symbolism and often tell the story of the woman who created each piece. Each rug takes about 20 to 30 days to hand-weave and the design is always completely original – no two rugs are ever the same!
The diamond is a motif that often appears in decoration, ornamentation, knotted rugs and other artistic works, not only because of its decorative shape, but also and more importantly for its symbolic meaning:
The immortality of the soul. Antique Moroccan rugs are real works of art, woven like paintings
