Baroque armchair with high backrest, in walnut and solid oak, probably England, the Netherlands, or Aachen–Liège region, circa 1730–1760.
The chair features a slightly arched high back, open-worked and finely carved with floral motifs, scrollwork, flowers, fleur-de-lis, acanthus leaves, shell ornament, and scallop shell (Saint James shell).
The structure rests on cabriole legs with stretcher supports and a seat frame. The front legs show later modifications.
Highly detailed workmanship characteristic of late Baroque and early Rococo furniture from the Flemish, Rhenish, or Southern German cultural regions in the 18th century.
