Rare Indian Quilt From The Louis XVI Period Circa 1780
Circa 1780 France Precious and rare Indian quilted quilt printed on a wooden board dating from the Louis XVI period. Manufacture not identified but potentially coming from the Alsace mining basin, Germany, Switzerland. Printed percale available in reserve of purple seedlings on a white background. Borders with medallions of bucolic sketches on a brown chimney sweep background laden with generous bouquets of roses. In the corners four spandrels with mirrored medallions topped with plant friezes. On the reverse, a beige cotton percale (stains and dirt) Large diamond stitching and very light wadding. Note a small rust stain on the right side and consolidation of the Indian pattern in the borders by small colored patches (mainly in the medallions), this remains barely visible to the naked eye. Good general structural condition and preserved plant colors. Dimensions: 126cm x 126cm.
