Stew Fork In Sterling Silver From The 18th Century! 18th Century Service Cutlery
Superb and rare silver stew fork from the 18th century.
The fork is of good size and is very heavy, the model is net.
It is hallmarked:
. Goldsmith's mark crushed, illegible
. Jurande hallmark: P with the year 89
. Charge mark not very readable but normally an A in a circle
. Discharge stamp: oak leaf
. A small illegible hallmark, probably a later census.
It is a superb piece, massive with an interesting weight, the piece is thick, especially at the level of the teeth.
Stewing forks are infinitely rarer than spoons, a magnificent collector's item not to be missed!
