Chinese Soapstone Pill Box
Covered box, as a pill box, very finely carved with a floral decoration with a grip on the lid. Steatite or lard stone (aluminous silicate, iron hydrate...) sometimes confused with jade, was widely used in Asia for the manufacture of small objects such as this pillbox. Early 20th century.
