Japanese Gold-lacquered Set Consisting Of A Writing Table (bundai) And A Writing Tray (suzuri)

A very rare matching set, in perfect condition, consisting of a writing table (bundai) and its inkstone box (suzuri bako). The original storage boxes are also included with this set.
The decoration is truly an invitation to travel. One can clearly make out a thatched cottage on a small island surrounded by pine trees, with boats moored nearby, and on the inkstone, a backdrop of mountains among the pines.
The polychrome lacquerwork—applied over a background of gold dust (nashiji), with flat areas and relief details—demonstrates great mastery, while the silver hardware enhances this set, which is in perfect condition. All of this lends itself perfectly to daydreaming.
