Important Antique Tibetan Wooden Pediment Avalokiteshvara Tara Durga Buddhist Temple

The central figure Avalokiteshvara is portrayed with eight arms, representing the eight directions, and eleven heads, which also signify the eight directions as well as the three vertical divisions of top, middle, and bottom. Flanked by figures of Tara and Durga interspersed with scrolls. 

The pediment has been exposed to smoke for many years which suggests that it has been above an altar where inscense, votive butter lamps and candles has been burning. It has old worm holes which are no longer active. 

Period - 16th / 17th century.

Measurement - Height 18 cm. Width 54.5 cm
