Antique French Porcelain Ceiling Light Counterweight Pulley, Sevres Style, C19th

A fine antique French porcelain counterweight pulley for an adjustable ceiling light or hanging oil lamp, dating to the 19th century.

The body is of elegant urn form, richly decorated in the Sèvres taste with deep cobalt blue vertical panels highlighted by delicate gilt floral sprays on a white ground. The decoration is finely executed and remains bright and attractive.

The piece is mounted with its original metal fittings, including the suspension mount and side pulley mechanism with a porcelain roller, allowing the height of a lamp to be adjusted smoothly. The porcelain counterweight would have provided balance to raise and lower the light.

A highly decorative and functional object, typical of refined 19th-century French interiors, combining practical use with ornamental appeal.

Height: 18.5 cm

Good condition. Minor chip to the interior of the pulley wheel, not visible in normal use and consistent with age.
