A rare Chinese export silver snuff box in European style, finely engraved with scrolling foliage surrounding a blank central cartouche. Of rectangular form with rounded corners and a shaped thumbpiece.
The interior bears two marks: one in Chinese characters (祥記, Xiang Ji, meaning “Auspicious Workshop”) and the other "MK", for Mok Kong, a Canton silversmith active in the late C19th.
A refined example of Chinese craftsmanship made for the Western market during the late Qing dynasty.
Width: 3 cm
Condition: Good antique condition; light wear and patina consistent with age.
