Horn dispensers like these were used during shamanic fire rituals. They were filled with mustard seeds, which were thrown into the fire to release smoke that purified the air of ghosts. They are often decorated with auspicious symbols from Tibetan Buddhism. One interesting feature that caught my eye was the Makara-shaped nozzle, which represents the seeds emerging from its mouth. The Makara is an ancient Hindu sea creature that served as a vessel for the Ganga and Varuda.
