Italian, Late 19th Century — Gilt-filigree Parure With Scarab Micromosaics

ITALIAN WORK, LATE 19TH CENTURY
Parure comprising a pendant brooch and a pair of drop earrings in gilt-metal filigree, decorated with coloured glass micromosaic panels featuring a central scarab on a white ground, surrounded by geometric and floral motifs in shades of green, pink, blue and red.
Brooch fitting to the reverse, with a suspension loop for use as a pendant; hooks for pierced ears. The scarab motif reflects the Egyptian Revival taste that was particularly popular in nineteenth-century jewellery, while the use of minute coloured-glass tesserae is characteristic of Italian micromosaic work
